Thank-you-ma’am is a noun meaning a bump or depression in a road especially a ridge or hollow made across a road on a hillside to cause water to run off.

The small village was suspicious of the mysterious woman, who had recently moved there, as children disappeared into the thank-you-ma’am behind her house.
