Prate is a verb meaning 1) to talk excessively and pointlessly; babble, or 2) to utter in empty or foolish talk. Or it can be a noun meaning 1) act of prating, or 2) empty or foolish talk.

I closed my eyes and dozed off during while the CEO prated on and on about the company’s 2nd quarter profits over the last five years.
